The gathering voiced strong opposition to the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill and Seeds Bill being introduced by the Punjab and Central Governments.

Kadian alleged that the Punjab Government, in coordination with the Centre, was preparing to pass the Electricity Amendment Bill. He termed it as a betrayal of Punjab’s farmers.

He warned that the Seed Bills would lead to the destruction of traditional crop varieties and pave the way for hybrid seeds approved by corporate houses.

“If farmers lose control over seeds, how will they continue farming?” he asked, adding that Punjab’s agriculture was s already vulnerable due to climate uncertainties and financial losses.

The union demanded immediate withdrawal of both the Bills and warned of a large-scale agitation if farmers’ demands were not met. “The responsibility for any unrest will lie with both the governments,” Kadian said.
