Farmers trained in soil, water testing
The Department of Extension Education, under the aegis of Dean of College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a training camp on “Soil and Water Testing” at Bagga Khurd village in the district. Nearly 100 farmers participated in the training programme that was held in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ludhiana. This camp was organised under the ICSSR funded project “Waste to Resource: Treated Wastewater Irrigation Management System for Sustainable Agriculture Under One Health Approach in Punjab.”
Dr Lakhwinder Kaur discussed the objectives of the project and highlighted the significance of soil and water testing and provided a demonstration on the correct procedure for collecting soil and water samples. She also informed the farmers about the PAU Kisan App and digital newspaper Kheti Sandesh.
Dr Amanpreet Kaur, Agronomist, School of Organic Farming, talked about the scope of organic farming in today’s scenario and elaborated the production technology of turmeric. She also showed samples of different types of turmeric.
Dr Lavleesh Garg, extension scientist, explained different training courses organised by the Skill Development Centre and their importance in the current scenario. He also informed the attendees about ‘Uddam’ and ‘Uddan’ programme of Punjab Agri Business Incubator (PABI) project.
Agriculture Officer Dr Ritika encouraged the farmers to take advantage of the services and resources offered by the PAU and their departments. After the camp, soil and water samples were also taken from fields.
