Festive season: Cops conduct extensive checks at jewellery shops

Owners urged to upgrade or repair faulty cameras to ensure maximum coverage of their premises

In view of the ongoing festive season, the Ludhiana police have intensified its efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens. Under the guidance of Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma, the operation was led by Sameer Verma, ADCP-1, along with Anil Bhanot, ACP Central, and the SHO, Division 4, with a police team. Police officials carried out extensive checks at jewellery shops across the city to prevent any untoward incident and strengthen cooperation between the police and the business community.

Senior officials personally visited various markets and jewellery outlets, interacting with shop owners and staff. Shopkeepers were sensitised to maintaining vigilance during the festival season and were advised to promptly inform the police in case of any suspicious activity, emergency or security concern.

During the checks, special attention was given to reviewing of CCTV cameras installed at the shops. Police officials inspected whether the cameras were operational, properly positioned and recording effectively. Shop owners were urged to upgrade or repair faulty cameras to ensure maximum coverage of their premises, both inside and outside the outlets.

The police also encouraged jewellery shop owners to adopt additional safety measures such as keeping emergency contact numbers handy, ensuring adequate lighting around their shops and raising immediate alerts through helpline numbers, if required.

The Ludhiana police highlighted that the cooperation of the business community plays a crucial role in crime prevention. They assured citizens that police personnel would remain on high alert, particularly in busy marketplaces, to safeguard life and property during the festive season.
