Fire claims lives of elderly woman, her grandson in Ludhiana
The building is a two-story structure with the factory on the ground floor and the family's residence upstairs
A major fire broke out in a building near Bharat Nagar Chowk in Ludhiana around 9 am on Wednesday, claiming the lives of an elderly woman and her grandson.
While Sudha Chopra (75) died on the spot, her grandson Garv Chopra was severely burnt and was taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment.
Sudha's son runs a thread factory in a lane near Bharat Nagar Chowk petrol pump. The building is a two-story structure with the factory on the ground floor and the family's residence upstairs. On Wednesday morning, a short circuit reportedly caused a sudden fire in the factory. Due to the large amount of thread kept inside, the fire spread quickly.
The blaze was so intense that it engulfed the entire building within minutes. Sudha, who was caught in the fire, died instantly, while her Garv was rescued but could not survive.
Upon receiving the information, a fire brigade team reached the spot and began working to extinguish the fire. Firefighters are continuously working to bring the flames under control.
