Fish festival at GADVASU big draw
The Fish Festival organised by the College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), attracted a large public response. The event, inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, aimed to create awareness about fish consumption and promote entrepreneurial opportunities in the fisheries sector.
The festival showcased ornamental fish species like Carp, Goldfish, Mauli, and Zebra, captivating fish enthusiasts and children alike.
Dr JPS Gill, Vice Chancellor, was the as Guest of Honor.
Visitors were educated on the health benefits of fish and got to experience value-added fish products.
The event highlighted fish processing as an entrepreneurial activity for youth and the aspiring farming community. Different ornamental fish species presented eye-catching vibrance for fish hobbyists, especially pet loving kids. Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal appreciated the young fisheries graduates who presented innovative fish products and aquariums under the experiential learning programme.
Dr Gill informed that the university is promoting fish and shrimp farming through its three-tier education, research and extension system. He noted the instrumental role of the university in developing shrimp farming in the saline-affected regions of the state.
Dr Meera D Ansal, Dean College of Fisheries informed that the fish products were sold like hot cakes before closing time, showing great public interest in the value added fish products.
