Exhibiting the incredible beauty of an infinite number of chrysanthemums under the bright sunshine, the two-day ‘27th Chrysanthemum Show’ concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. A spectrum of multicoloured chrysanthemum varieties, including the winter queen, autumn joy, royal purple, kelvin mandarin, punjab shingar, and regan white, soothed people’s nerves, setting in a feeling of serenity in the hurly-burly of city life. The show was organised by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping as well as the estate organisation of the PAU under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education.

Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education (ADEE), who was the chief guest at the event, said floriculture had seen a fast-paced expansion due to a spurt in the demand for flowers on different occasions. “Sowing, possessing, and preserving flowers have been a rich tradition with the flower enthusiasts,” he said, while commending the DF&L for training, promoting, and advocating the adoption of flower cultivation for domestic and commercial purposes.

The show received 250 entries and displayed a rich diversity with various sizes of flowers (3-15 cm) and different flower types (comprising 11 classes of flower forms). It got an overwhelming response from amateurs, individuals, educational institutions, and private nurseries.
