The Crime Branch-3 today claimed to have nabbed three accomplices of notorious gangster Sagar Newton. His brother is among the arrested suspects.

The suspects have been identified as Mahi Gill of Kundanpuri, Sumit Kumar (Newton’s brother) of Dugri and Kirat Kumar, alias Sahil, of LIG Flags Dugri. The police also recovered one pistol and two sharp weapons from the trio.

CIA-3 inspector Navdeep Singh said the three suspects had been actively working for Newton and were committing crimes on the directions of the gangster. Among them, Mahi along with two other aides of Newton had fired at the house of Newton’s opponent Navi in Karnail Singh Nagar, Dugri, on the night of July 8.

The inspector said today the suspects were sitting in a vacant plot near the PAU and were planning to commit a major loot in the city. A police team conducted a raid and nabbed the miscreants.

“They were in touch with Newton. Hence, with the arrest of his aides, the police may also get any clue regarding the whereabouts of the gangster,” he said.

A case has been registered against the trio.

Later, the CIA-2 wing of the Ludhiana police arrested the fourth accomplice of Newton. He was identified as Sumit Sabharwal, alias Naanu, a resident of Shahi Mohalla. The police seized .32 bore pistol along with one cartridge. CIA-2 in-charge inspector Bikramjit Singh said acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted and the man was nabbed from Jandiali. Sumit, along with Mahi Gill and one more suspect, had fired at the house of Newton’s opponent on the night of July 8. A case has been registered.
