Ludhiana, July 21

Four more state meet records were rewritten on the second and last day of the 35th Sub-Junior and 47th Junior Punjab Swimming Championship organised by the District Swimming Association Ludhiana (DSAL) and Vardhman Textiles jointly under the patronage of Punjab Swimming Association that concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) swimming pool here on Sunday.

Yesterday, one meet record was shattered when Apurva Sharma of Mohali set a new record 100m butterfly stroke event. Today, she created another record in 200m butterfly stroke with a time of 02.43:04 minutes, eclipsing the existing record of 02.43:62 minutes, set by her last year.

In the 50m back stroke event, Avni Chhabra from Pathankot, established a new record, clocking 32.13 seconds. The previous record of 32.15 seconds also set by her in the last edition of the championship.

Two records were established by Ludhiana swimmers Ojas Sund and Anushka Sharma. Ojas rewrote the record in the 50m butterfly event (27.14 seconds). The existing record of 28.75 second was set in 2011 by Deshdeep Ghai of Jalandhar.

Anushka clocked 30.34 seconds to create a new meet record in the 50m butterfly stroke event putting to shade her own previous record of 30.42 seconds.

Mohali swimmers stamped their supremacy to lift overall trophy in the junior category while in the sub-junior section, Sangrur participants proved their mettle to annex overall trophy.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, vice-chancellor, PAU, and Amit Jain, vice-president, CSR Department, Vardham Textiles Limited, gave away the prizes. Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, was the guest of honour on this occasion.

The day’s results

1,500m freestyle (boys-I): Jujhar Singh Gill (Mohali) 1st, Rajveer Singh (Jalandhar) 2nd and Hardik Bhatia (Ludhiana) 3rd.

1,500m freestyle (girls-I): Shubhnoor Kaur (Mohali) 1st, Dhriti Mahajan (Paathankot) 2nd and Guntaspreet Kaur (Mohali) 3rd.

1,500m freestyle (boys-II): Nikunj Behal (Ferozepur) 1st, Iris Partap Singh (Ludhiana) 2nd and Arnav Joura (Mohali) 3rd.

1,500m freestyle (girls-II): Jasleen Kaur Dhillon (Ludhiana) 1st, Bhagya (Pathankot) 2nd and Tvisha (Ferozepur) 3rd.

200m freestyle (boys-III): Prabal Sharma (Fazilka) 1st, Arnavjeet Singh (Sangrur) 2nd and Mansimar Singh (Ferozepur) 3rd.

200m freestyle (girls-III): Sonakshi Saigal (Pathankot) 1st, Aradhya (Ludhiana) 2nd and Nimrat (Ferozepur) 3rd.

50m back stroke (boys-I): Rajveer Singh (Jalandhar) 1st, Vaibhav Kohli (Ludhiana) 2nd and Kartikey Bahl (Ludhiana) 3rd.

50m back stroke (girls-I): Avni Sharma (Pathankot) 1st, Jayanna Sapra (Ludhiana) 2nd and Aanya Sapra (Mohali) 3rd.
