Gagandeep, Harsh, Kajal hog limelight
Harsh, a student of BA-I, along with Kajal, a student of BCA-I, and Gagandeep Kaur of BA-II, hogged the limelight at the 30th Annual Athletics Meet of Kamla Lohtia SD College (KLSDC), which began here on Friday.
Gagandeep Kaur romped home victorious in the long jump and discus throw events, besides finishing as the second runners-up in shot put, while Harsh emerged as the winner in the 800-m and 1,500-m races. Kajal won two titles — 400-m and 800-m races.
Bharat Bhushan Ashu, a former minister of Punjab, inaugurated the two-day meet. Speaking on the occasion, he said in the present times, the role of educational institutions was to produce perfect human beings who would be able to compete and withstand the pressures of the competitive world and align them with their heritage, culture, and family structure and hence bring glory to their parents and the nation.
Principal Dr Mohammed Saleem welcomed the chief guest and members of the college management committee.
On the first day of the competition, the boys’ events saw impressive performances. In the 1,500-m race, Harsh (BA-I) took first place, with Kinshuk (BA-I) securing second and Bhisham (B Com-I) finishing third. The 800-m race was equally competitive, with Harsh (BA-I) claiming the top spot, followed by Risham Gosain (B Com-I) in the second and Rudher Kumar Sharma (BA-I) in the third.
In the girls category, Kajal (BCA-I) dominated the 400-m race, finishing in first place, while Kajal (BA-II) took second and Sanchita Thakur (B Com-I) finished third. In the long jump, Gagandeep Kaur (BA-II) claimed the top spot, followed by Nancy (BCA-I) and Sanchita Thakur (B Com-I) in the second and third places, respectively. The shot put event was won by Anamika (M Com-II), with Khushali (BA-I) securing the second place and Gagandeep Kaur (BA-II) finishing in the third. In the discus throw, Gagandeep Kaur (BA-II) once again excelled, taking first place, followed by Nancy (BCA-I) in the second and Jyoti (M Com-II) in the third. Finally, in the 800-m race, Kajal (BCA-I) clinched the top spot, with Anshika (BCA-I) taking the second and Sanchita Thakur (B Com-I) finishing third.
