The Ludhiana police on Wednesday apprehended five persons involved in thefts and robberies in the city. They were arrested when they were planning to commit a loot in the city.

The suspects have been identified as Tunna Kumar, alias Tunna, Rahul, Abhimanyu, Neeraj and Saurabh. The police recovered four motorcycles, a scooter and three sharp weapons from their possession.

ADCP Vaibhav Sehgal, ACP Jasbir Singh, and Moti Nagar SHO inspector Bhupinder Singh said the police received information that the suspects, who were habitual offenders of robbery, theft, were planning a dacoity while sitting in the GLADA ground.

Following the tip-off, the police conducted a raid and took the five suspects into their custody. During the preliminary investigation, it emerged that they were planning to carry out a major crime in the area, the ADCP said.

He said several criminal cases, including robbery and drug, were already registered against the suspects. The police said several revelations were expected to be made during the interrogation of the suspects.
