ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Singh Brar said information about the firing was received and investigation was launched to identify the suspects. The viral post of gangster Newton, in which he claimed the responsibility for the firing, was also being verified. “Our teams are already searching for him and raids are being conducted at his suspected whereabouts. He will be arrested soon,” Brar said.

Notably, on April 7 this year, after a group of men, identified as Sagar Newton, Monu Dedhi, Shubham, Rajeev, Kuldeep Singh, Ankit and Monu Dwark, had barged into the house of Navi in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and attacked his family, including his 80-year-old grandmother Surjeet Kaur, the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries on May 27. Initially, a case of attempt to murder was registered by the police but after the death, murder charge was added to the FIR. On June 22, Newton’s wife Vanshika was arrested by the police in the case as the police claimed she was part of the conspiracy and the suspect also gave shelter to her husband.

Notably, the gangster is quite active on social media where he frequently posts his personal videos with songs, glorifying gangsters and weapons. He also posted videos of himself firing in the air. On October 4, 2023, Newton had made a video call from the jail and talked to his family and residents of the area on a projector and told them that he would soon come out of the jail to meet them. Notably, the gangster is facing over 12 cases, including murder, attempt to murder and arms smuggling. He was also found involved in weapon smuggling while lodged in the jail and his men were also arrested by the police with illegal weapons.

Gangster’s post on social media

Gangster Sagar Newton’s post on social media says, “I take the responsibility for firing at the house of Navi as the latter has been conniving with my enemies and if he would not mend his ways, I will get him killed. Navi had also filed a fake case against my wife, who was arrested by the police and lodged in a jail. I have no connection with my family now, stop bothering them, else, you will have to face the consequences.”
