GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Rishi had adopted zero tolerance to unauthorised and unplanned development with a special focus on illegal colonies.

He said a special drive had been launched to take punitive action against those who were fleecing innocent residents under the garb of offering cheaper plots in unauthorised colonies, which lacked statutory sanction and compliance with the government norms.

In compliance with demolition orders issued by Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA-cum-competent authority Ojasvi, against unauthorised colonies, Duty Magistrate Surinder Kumar Pabbi, naib tehsildar (East), Ludhiana, police force and enforcement team of GLADA demolished eleven unauthorised colonies on Friday at Bhamian Khurd and Bhamian Kalan villages by dismantling their roads, boundary walls, passages, sewer manholes and undergoing illegal constructions and structures on these sites.

The illegal colonies were situated in Bhamian Khurd and Bhamian Kalan villages. When developers did not stop the illegal construction works despite serving them notices, a special team carried out the demolition drive, which went unopposed.

In a move to check mushrooming of illegal colonies at initial stages, GLADA is planning more such drives in coming weeks.

The GLADA Chief Administrator appealed to the public not to purchase property/plots/buildings in unauthorised colonies as GLADA would not provide any facilities such as water supply, sewerage and electricity connections. The list of approved and regularised colonies along with their sanctioned maps is available on the official website of GLADA, which may be checked by prospective buyers before buying any property.

He said besides undertaking a demolition campaign, GLADA had also recommended that tehsildars should not register plots in these illegal colonies and no electricity connections should be issued to the unauthorised colonies by the PSPCL. It also recommended filing of FIRs against developers of unauthorised colonies in Ludhiana district.
