GLADA removes encroachments

On the directions of Sandeep Rishi, Chief Administrator, Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) removed sown crops that encroached over 300 acres of land in Sekhowal, Salempur, Sailkiana, Haider Nagar, Garhi Faijal and Garcha villages, falling under the Koom Kalan area in the district.
GLADA had collected around 957 acres from panchayat and Central Government departments on the behalf of the state government as the land was proposed for setting up a mega textile park under the PM Mitra scheme.
Ojasvi Alankar, Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA, formed a special team comprising GLADA, Revenue Departments and PSPCL officials conducted the drive along with a heavy police force. Manveer Kaur, naib tehsildar, Koom Kalan, has been appointed as Special Duty Magistrate by the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, during the drive.
During the drive GLADA demolished unauthorised structures and removed borewells, engines and motors. Unauthorised electricity connections were also disconnected by the PSPCL during the drive, as per instructions of GLADA.
The drive was conducted in two phases, i.e. June 28 and July 18. In the first phase, around 180 acres of land has been cleared from encroachments of sown crops, etc. During the drive, GLADA deployed heavy machinery comprising six JCB machines and seven tractors/trollies, etc.
