The strings of the ongoing probe into the recent recovery of a Chinese live grenade by the police have now been connected to an inmate, Vijay, lodged in Sri Ganganagar jail.

Vijay is the brother of Ajay Malaysia, who is believed to have been operating for Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) from Malaysia and is being considered as one of the key conspirators in the case.

So far, the police have arrested five accused in the case—namely Kuldeep (from whom the grenade was recovered), Shekhar (who accompanied Kuldeep, but managed to flee), Ajay Kumar (who was in touch with Kuldeep and Shekhar) and Parwinder and Ramnik (who were arrested after they were brought on a production warrant from Muktsar jail). During questioning, Ajay Malaysia’s name came up.

A senior police official, privy to the investigation, said Ludhiana police had already brought Vijay on a production warrant from Sri Ganganagar jail on Friday evening. “Vijay is the brother of one of the key conspirators, Ajay Malaysia, and questioning him will possibly give us some vital leads about Ajay’s network and entire plot of the attack that was averted. Police will check if Ajay was in touch

with Vijay about the nefarious plan,” added a police official.

A police official also said that the role of two Muktsar jail inmates, Parwinder and Ramnik, was yet to be established properly as no proper technical evidences were found but the duo were yet to be given a clean chit as the police were trying to recover the phones they were using inside the jail for communication.

It is believed the suspects planned to detonate the grenade at a Chhat Puja venue.
