Ground report: Sunet village healthcare facility worth emulating

Visiting a health centre is not a hectic and tedious task for the people living in Sunet village. Thanks to the Ayushman Arogya Kendra in their vicinity, they can now easily access the healthcare facilities near their doorstep.

This health centre has been serving people for the past almost 25 years and has gone through many transitions for good. Earlier a dispensary, it was upgraded to Urban Primary Health Centre and then an Aam Aadmi Clinic was set up here which has recently been rechristened Ayushman Arogya Kendra (AAK), while the UPHC also remains on the same premises but with different block.

With spic and span new infrastructure, AAK gives welcoming vibes and the staff too is helpful and cooperative to every patient visiting here. The AAK team is headed by a doctor and the support team includes a pharmacist, clinical assistance and a class IV employee.

“Medicine is coming on time and we have all the required infrastructure with us. On an average, 90 patients visit the AAK daily. Medicines and tests are done free of cost here and if the need arises, only then a patient is referred to the Civil Hospital,” said a doctor.

Sunita, who was suffering from fever, came to see doctor and said all her tests were done free of cost here and she was also given medicines by them. “Whenever there is any medical emergency, we come straight here and the doctor guides us very diligently and listens to all patients very patiently,” she said.

Balwinder Singh, an octogenarian from the village, said he had seen this health centre grow over the years. Years back, it was mostly catering to pregnant women and vaccination of the kids, but now all health care facilities are available. “I always visit this centre and am satisfied with the services it is providing,” he said. There is no jostling among the patients for their turn and they are seen patiently waiting to consult the doctor, get medicines and get tests done.

The Ayushman Arogya Kendra at Sunet is surely a role model for government healthcare facilities.
