The Parkash Purb of the founder of Khalsa Panth — Guru Gobind Singh — was celebrated in religious fervour on Monday. The gurdwaras were specially decorated for the occasion with real and artificial floral hangings. At many gurdwaras, prasad of karah, bananas, biscuits and tea was offered to the devotees, who listened to the melodious kirtan by the ‘ragis’ on the day.

As per the Sikh history, Guru Gobind Singh established Khalsa Panth, a community of Sikh warriors to protect the innocent and fight against oppression. The Sikhs pay homage to the guru, reflecting on his preaching.
