Guru Gobind Singh’s Parkash Purb celebrated with gaiety
The Parkash Purb of the founder of Khalsa Panth — Guru Gobind Singh — was celebrated in religious fervour on Monday. Despite the biting cold conditions, huge number of devotees visited various gurdwaras in the city. The devotees included old-aged people and youngsters. They paid obeisance and sought blessings of the Almighty on the occasion.
The gurdwaras were specially decorated for the occasion with real and artificial floral hangings. At many gurdwaras, prasad of karah, bananas, biscuits and tea was offered to the devotees, who listened to the melodious kirtan by the ‘ragis’ on the day.
As per the Sikh history, Guru Gobind Singh established Khalsa Panth, a community of Sikh warriors to protect the innocent and fight against oppression. The Sikhs pay homage to the guru, reflecting on his preaching.
The leading gurdwaras in the city, including Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara, Model Town, Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Sarabha Nagar, Gurdwara Alamgir, Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib, etc saw good number of devotees seeking blessings.
