Governor honours veteran athlete Jarnail Singh
Veteran international athlete Jarnail Singh Garcha received a prestigious recognition from the Punjab Government on Republic Day for his exceptional contributions to track events at the international level.
The 66-year-old athlete was among 105 individuals felicitated by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during the state-level Republic Day ceremony at Punjab Agricultural University campus.
Jarnail Singh, a resident of Satjot Nagar, Dhandhra Road, Ludhiana, has been a consistent performer throughout his career. His achievements include winning three gold medals (in high jump, 400m race, and 4x400m relay race) at the Pan India Masters Games in Bengaluru.
He further made a mark on the international stage with an impressive six-medal haul at the 19th Australian Masters Games held in Adelaide last year.
Competing in the 65+ years category, Jarnail Singh clinched gold medals in the 400m race, 300m low hurdles, and 100m high hurdles events. He also earned a silver medal as first runner-up in the 800m race, along with bronze medals in the 60m race and high jump.
Jarnail Singh had earlier gained national recognition, winning a gold medal in the 400m race at the National Veterans Athletics Meet in Nasik and also excelling in kabaddi, where he won a gold in the national championship.
