Streets of Sahnewal echoed with devotion and reverence as the administration, kar sewa jatha from Gurdwara Langar Sahib, Nanded; management of Gurdwara Reru Sahib and the town’s sangatcame together to extend a warm welcome to the historic grand Nagar Kirtan organised to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The air carried a the warmth of gurbani with each individual paying tribute to the ninth Sikh Guru’s unparalleled sacrifice embodying the spirit of seva, shaheedi and unwavering faith.
The Nagar Kirtan started from Faridkot under the guidance of Lakha Singh of Nanaksar Sahib on November 19 and entered Ludhiana yesterday, proceeding from the clock tower towards Jalandhar bypass, Samrala chowk, Giaspura, Dhandhari, and Jugiana to finally reach the historic Gurdwara Reru Sahib in Sahnewal where it halted for half an hour. It would resume its onward journey to Khanna before its culmination at Fatehgarh Sahib tonight.
Thousands of devotees gathered to welcome the nagar kirtan led by thePanj Piaras (five beloved ones of the Guru) and the ‘Saroop’ of the Guru Granth Sahib being carried in a bus decorated with flowers. Crackers were burst, gatka was performed and the sangat, dressed in their best, chanted the sacred hyms attributed to Guru Teg Bahadur. Tiny tots from local schools showered the procession with flowers.
Ludhiana East SDM Jasleen Bhulla said that the event had turned out to be a grand success with the administration and community coming together to turn it into an unforgettable celebration.
The Reru Sahib management committee, which oversaw the entire event at Sahnewal, expressed its appreciation for the government’s efforts in organising this grand celebration.
