The Ludhiana police on Monday night conducted a raid at a farmhouse in Thakur Colony, Lalton Kalan, where people were being served hookah illegally.
Head constable Harvinder Singh said a police team was present at Lalton Kalan where they got a tip-off that a party was going on at a farmhouse and the organiser had not taken any permission from the authorities for the same. Furthermore, hookah was also served to the people against the norms.
He said use of hookah was banned by the police and even the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural and Headquarters) had issued orders in this regard. During the raid, the police arrested Narinder Bhatia of Nanakpuri and registered a case against him.
Ahead of Diwali, gambling activities increases at farmhouses and other secluded places in the city. The police had been keeping a tab to check the menace. Meanwhile, CIA-2 police officials caught seven persons while gambling and recovered Rs 25,000 cash from them. They were identified as Joginder, Sachin, Beant, Gurdev Singh, Harjinder, Ram Kumar and Vijay Kumar. They were gambling openly in a street at Vijay Nagar on Monday night. A case was registered.
