Hospital organises lecture on AI-fuelled future of surgery
Ludhiana, July 15
A guest lecture on ‘Surgical Futures and Artificial Intelligence’ was held today at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H) for the faculty and students. The lecture explored the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of surgical practices and healthcare delivery.
The speaker, Dr Inderbir Singh Gill, DMC&H almunus and Chairman of the Catherine and Joseph Aresty Department of Urology at Keck School of Medicine, renowned urologist and robotic surgeon, who is one of the pioneers of minimally invasive surgery delivered a slide presentation on how AI was revolutionising the field of surgery.
In his lecture, Dr Inderbir Singh highlighted how AI was offering improvements in diagnosis, treatment, patient care and operational efficiency. “With the use of AI algorithms we can analyse X-rays, MRIs, CT scans and other imaging results to detect abnormalities, such as tumours or fractures, with high sensitivity,” he added. “AI systems also help examine cancerous cells or other diseases more quickly and accurately than traditional methods. The integration of AI with robotic surgery systems, enhances surgical precision, enabling surgeons to perform complex operations with greater control,” highlighted, Dr Singh.
Further, Dr Singh added that AI could streamline the delivery of medical services in OPD areas also saving time and effectively managing patient flow to reduce waiting times. All attendees actively participated in discussions and question-answer sessions.
