A 55-year-old man, identified as Baldev Raj, a native of HP, was arrested for allegedly molesting his eight-year-old neighbour in Mairh Colony.

The girl’s mother reported the incident, stating that on November 15 she had sent her daughter to the suspect’s room to ask for food but when the child did not return, she went to check on her and found the man in a compromising position.

Her mother raised the alarm and with the help of neighbours, they apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police. The man confessed to his crime. The police booked him under the POCSO Act and Section 354, IPC. ASI Harbhol Singh said after registering a case on Monday, he was arrested. The suspect and victim’s family were staying in separate portions of the same house.
