Illegal sale of plots: Punjab Vigilance Bureau registers case against former Ludhiana Improvement Trust Chairman, 5 others

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday registered a criminal case against former Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) Chairman Raman Balasubramanium and five others, including Executive Officer Kuljit Kaur, SDO Ankit Narang, sales clerk Parveen Kumar, clerk Gagandeep and PA to Chairman Sandeep Sharma.

The Bureau has arrested PA Sandeep Sharma and further investigation is on.

Disclosing this here today, a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said they arrested LIT Executive Officer Kuljit Kaur and Junior Assistant Harmit Singh red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on July 14, 2022, and registered an FIR at VB Police Station in Ludhiana in this regard.

During the investigation, it came to light that the LIT officials had allotted plot No. 9-B in SBS Nagar, plot numbers 102, 103, 104, 105, 106-D in Rishi Nagar and plot numbers 366-B and 140 in Sarabha Nagar, which fall under Local Displaced Persons (LDP) and other schemes of the Trust, to unauthorised persons by accepting bribe, he said, adding that it was found that some of the allottees had died and their plots had been allotted to some unauthorised persons violating prescribed rules after taking huge bribe money.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act in this regard has been registered by the Economic Offences Wing of the Bureau at VB Police Station, Ludhiana, and further investigation is being carried out against the accused/officials of LIT, the spokesperson said.
