In a major relief to the Education Department, the non-teaching staff, who have been on a strike for the past about 40 days, decided to join the duties from today onwards after calling off the suspension of work.

Around 1,000 non-teaching staff members from all over Punjab called off their prolonged strike on the assurance given by the Director General School Education (DGSE) that their salary issue would be considered soon by the authorities.

The members of the protesting SSA MDM Daftari Karamchari Union, Punjab, said the main demand was the regularisation of workers.

Sharing further details, the members said that they have been told that a file will be moved to higher ups for consideration of their demand for regularisation but the authorities have also assured them that they will consider the case of salary cut of the employees.

It may be mentioned that during the 40-day employee strike, the regular working of the education department suffered immensely as no files could be cleared, no grants could be released in absence of moving of files, no surveys were done and updated etc.

Earlier, the Secretary Education, Punjab, had threatened the non-teaching staff with “no work, no pay” in case the emploiyees did not resume their respective work in the department.
