Jagraon zone emerged winners in the girls U-14 and 19 categories while Sahnewal zone romped home victors in the girls U-17 section in volleyball competitions on the fourth day of the 69th Ludhiana District Schools Games being organised by the Punjab Education Department at various venues across the district on Thursday.
Competitions in different games for boys and girls in U-14, 17 and 19 groups are being conducted under the guidance of Dimple Madaan, District Education Officer (Secondary Education) and supervision of Kulveer Singh, district sports coordinator.
In the girls U-14 group games being played at Guru Nanak Stadium, Jagraon, Sahnewal and Ludhiana-I zones secured top three positions and in U-17 section, Sahnewal zone came out triumphant, while Jagraon zone finished second and Ludhiana-I zone had to content with the third position. Likewise, in the U-19 group, Jagraon zone got top position, followed by Sahnewal zone and Ludhiana-I zone at second and third spot, respectively. In basketball (boys U-14), at Government Senior Secondary Multipurpose School ground, PAU zone beat Sahnewal zone 43-21 and Ludhiana-I zone thrashed Khanna zone 42-2 to enter the final.
In the boys U-17 category, Ludhiana-I zone beat Sahnewal zone 92-78 and PAU zone outperformed Khanna zone 45-20 to qualify for the final, while in handball, at PAU school ground, PAU zone girls (U-14) secured first place, while Ludhiana-I zone and Samrala zone finished at second and third place, respectively.
At International Public School ground, Sandhu Nagar, in cricket (boys U-17), Ludhiana zone defeated Raikot zone, while Khanna zone beat Rara Sahib zone to advance into the next round.
