A seminar was organised by the Communist Party of India at Isru Bhawan today on the ‘Jallianwala Bagh Massacre’ and ‘India’s Freedom Struggle and Challenges’.

Dr Swaraj Bir Singh, the former editor of Punjabi Tribune, said the resentment that brewed in the country after the massacre of innocent people at Jallianwala Bagh, intensified the freedom movement. This exhibited unity among the people of various religious groups. However, conspiracy by the British, who promoted the two nation theory propounded by the Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha, led to the partition of the country.

District secretary of the CPI, DP Maur, said the district would do its best to participate in the upcoming national party congress in Chandigarh from September 21 to 25. Others who addressed the seminar include Dr Arun Mitra, Ramesh Rattaen and MS Bhatia.
