Kanungo dies in road mishap

A Kanungo posted at Samrala tehsil died on the spot while his wife and an auto-rickshaw driver were seriously injured when a truck coming from the Dehlon side rammed into an auto-rickshaw followed by a Swift car coming from the opposite end near Radha Swami Satsang Dera on Sahnewal-Dehlon road today. The Kanungo was travelling in the Swift car along with his wife. The truck driver was nabbed by the Sahnewal police on the spot and a case under the BNS has been registered against him.
The deceased has been identified as Gurmail Singh (56), a resident of village Koom Khurd. He was posted as Kanungo at Samrala tehsil. Injured Paramjit Kaur (55) and Vijay Kumar (32), a resident of Shimlapuri, Ludhiana, have been admitted to SPS Hospital, Ludhiana and Civil Hospital respectively in a serious condition.
Sohan Singh, a resident of Noorpur Bedi in Ropar, was coming from Dehlon side in his truck bearing the number HP 62A 1712 when he rammed into an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite side being driven by Vijay Kumar, followed by a Swift car bearing the registration number PB 10 GG 8699 in which Kanungo Gurmail Singh and his wife Paramjit Kaur were travelling. As a result of the fatal accident, Gurmail Singh breathed his last while his co-driver Paramjit Kaur and auto-rickshaw driver Vijay Kumar sustained serious injuries. The auto-rickshaw driver was going to unload the material on Dehlon-Sahnewal road while Gurmail Singh along with his wife was going to visit his in-laws at village Jaspal Bangar.
Sohan Singh, the driver of the truck, has been taken into custody by the police and a case has been registered. “The driver was in an inebriated condition due to which the accident took place,” informed SHO Sahnewal, Jagdev Singh. — OC
