The Khanna police have arrested 11 accused, including a head constable and three PSPCL employees, and seized 230 gm heroin, Rs 65,000 drug money, two cars and one motorcycle from them.

Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav Bains said on May 19 a police party was conducting routine patrolling near Sabji Mandi when they got a tip-off that some persons involved in heroin smuggling were sitting on a vacant plot. The police arrested the accused identified as Amarjit Singh of Udham Nagar, Shri Muktsar Sahib; Angrej Singh of Kartar Singh Nagar, Khanna; Sehzad Mohammad of New Shanti Naga; Manjinder Singh and Sukhvir Singh of Basant Nagar, Khanna.

The SSP said when cops frisked the accused a transparent envelope having 30 gm of heroin was found from the pocket of the pant worn by Amarjit and Rs 20,000 drug money seized from the dashboard of the vehicle. A case of drug smuggling was registered against the accused. During questioning, Amarjit admitted that the drugs were procured from Gurmukh Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, Khanna, (PSPCL official) and head constable Arvinder Singh of Passi Nagar on Pakhowal Road and was further supplied to the clients. Gurmukh was also named as an accused in the case and was arrested with 100 gm of heroin.

Bains revealed that on May 21, on the disclosures of Gurmukh, Raj Mahinder Singh was also named as an accused in the case and was arrested from Amritsar and 100 gm heroin and Rs 45,000 drug money confiscated from him.

He stated that head constable Arvinder Singh, who is posted at the Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana, and Sukhdev Singh of Dehiru, a watchman in PSPCL, are involved in drug trafficking and were also arrested. During a probe, it was found that Arvinder used to sell drugs at the Doctor Mobile Repair Shop of Amritpal Singh, Bhola colony in Manakwal on Dhandra road of Ludhiana, and he was also arrested.
