The police have also denounced the claim by a gang on social media, taking responsibility for the murder as false and fake. However, those taking the claim, and their accomplice, if any, would also be included in the list of the suspects, the police said.
The suspects were identified on the basis of information extracted from 12 persons, who had either given shelter to the suspects or helped them flee the scene after the firing in which one of the injured, identified as Gurvinder Singh, had died and another person, Dharampal, was undergoing treatment at a hospital. Third friend Lovepreet escaped unhurt in the incident.
Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav lamented that some unidentified persons had tried to sensationalise the murder case by terming the deceased as a kabbadi player and taking responsibility for his murder whereas the special investigating team (SIT) had already identified all four prime suspects.
“It was due to diligent working of members of the SIT that we have tightened noose around all suspects identified on the basis of information extracted from their 12 sympathisers and accomplices detained so far,” said Dr Jyoti Yadav assuring that the suspects would be nabbed soon.
She said the deceased youth used to rear pigeons and was not a professional kabaddi player. She also denounced the social media claim by a gangster group taking responsibility for his murder.
Four bike-borne assailants had opened fire at three friends at Manki village in Samrala on Monday night. The incident resulted in bullet injuries to Dharampal and Gurvinder. While Dharampal is admitted to a hospital, Gurvinder succumbed to his injuries due to loss of blood shortly after the assault.
Investigations had revealed that the suspects were sent by a youth of Dyalke village, Sandeep, who had enmity with the victims.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, through Anmol Bishnoi, had claimed responsibility for the killing and terming Gurvinder as a kabaddi player, a claim that has been denounced by the Khanna police as all prime suspects had been identified.
