Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) of Kasabad in girls’ U-14 category, Dashmesh Senior Secondary School, Dashmesh Nagar in U-17 section and Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Government Senior Secondary School in the U-21 group scripted victories in softball on the opening day of the district-level games of the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, being organised by the Sports Department under the aegis of Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, with the help of district administration at different venues across the district on Tuesday.

At Government Girls College ground here, in the U-14 section, GSSS, Kasabad trounced Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School 13-3; in U-17 group, Dashmesh School survived some anxious moments before wrapping up the match 6-5 against RS Model School and in U-21 category, Shaheed-e-Azam Shukhdev Thapar School routed Gill village team 15-1.

In basketball, at Guru Nanak Stadium, in the girls’ U-14 section, Doraha Public School, Doraha beat Ludhiana Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar defeated PS Khalsa School while in U-17 category, GSSS, Threeke outplayed Government High School, Jawaddi, Ludhiana outclassed Guru Nanak Stadium team, Doraha Public School beat PS Khalsa School and Khalsa Club outwitted Saraswati Model High School.

At the multipurpose indoor hall, opposite Guru Nanak Stadium, in kickboxing for girls’ U-14 section, Jasleen Kaur of Wisdom International School emerged winner in the below 28 kg weight category, in below 32 kg weight section, Heena came out triumphant and in the below 37 kg weight group, Srishti of Khanna Public School, Khanna came out triumphant.

In netball, at Government Senior Secondary Smart School ground, Bhaini Baringha village, GSSSS, Bhaini Baringha won top position in the girls’ U-14 section while GHG Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Mandi Bahadurgarh secured first position in U-17 group.

In badminton (girls’ U-14), Samaira Aggarwal, Anshika Tanya Dhiman and Kammil Sabharwal recorded victories in their respective matches and secured a berth in the semi-finals whereas in U-17 group, Gursimrat Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Upneet Kaur and Ananya Nijhawan completed the semi-final line-up.

At Harvest International School campus ground, Jassowal Kular village, in lawn tennis,Tanisha Nath emerged victorious in girls’ U-14 section, Ranjana Sangram secured first place in U-17 group and Simranpritam fetched the first position in 21-30 years category.
