Simranpreet Kaur of Kendriya Vidyalya, AFS Halwara, Bobby of Akalgarh and Saina Katyal of DAV Public School, Jagraon, emerged the winners in kickboxing in the girls’ different weight categories in the U-17 section in the ongoing district-level games of the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, being organised by the Punjab Sports Department under the aegis of the Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, with assistance from the district administration at different venues across the district on Thursday.
At the multipurpose indoor hall, Ludhiana, Simranpreet came out victorious in the below 50kg weight section while Bobby triumphed in the below 55kg weight group. Saina secured the top position in below 65kg weight category.
In the plus 65kg weight group, Japjeet Kaur of DAV Public School, Jagraon, pipped her opponents to secure the first place and in the below 60kg weight section, Sukhmanpreet Kaur won the top honours.
In the girls’ U-21 section, in the light contact event, Jashandeep Kaur of Jagraon (below 45kg), Damanpreet Kaur (below 50kg), Khushbu of Akalgarh (below 55kg) and Ravneet Kaur of Jagraon in the below 60kg weight section, finished at the top spot.
In weightlifting, at Naresh Chander Stadium, Khanna, in the girls’ U-14 section, Parveen Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Manak Majra village, fetched the top position in below 35kg weight group, Sukhdeep Kaur, also of Manak Majra, wrapped up the title in below 40kg weight section and Khushpreet Kaur of Manak Majra emerged the winner in the below 45kg weight category.
In chess, at BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar branch, Jaisica Punhari won the top place in the girls’ U-17 group, Deepti Sharma emerged the champion in the U-21 section and Mamta Mehrotra secured the top position in the women’s 41-50 years category.
In softball (boys’ U-14), Guru Nanak Model School, Dholewal, beat Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School, Shimla Puri, 10-0, Coaching Centre, Mallah (Jagraon), beat Dashmesh Senior Secondary School 9-5 and BCM School, Focal Point, beat Government Senior Secondary School, Sangowal, 10-0.
In the boys’ U-17 section, BCM School, Focal point, beat Coaching Centre, Mallah (Jagraon),10-0 and RS Model Senior Secondary School beat Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School 6-4.
