Over 200 probables attended trials in football being conducted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the KIRTI
(Khelo India Rising Talent Identification) scheme here at the SAI Training Centre, opposite Guru Nanak Stadium on Monday.
The five-day trials are being organised to identify sporting talent in the 9-18 age bracket in six disciplines — football, volleyball, athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho and wrestling. During the trials, physical fitness and sport-specific tests will be conducted to ascertain the players’ abilities.
Kritika Goyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony while Sangeeta Sheoran, deputy director, SAI Regional Centre, Zirakpur, presided over the function. Rupinder Singh Brar, District Sports Officer, and Dr Ankit Gulia, heart specialist at Hero DMC Heart Centre, were the guests of honour.
Rakesh Kumar Solanki, in-charge, SAI Centre, Ludhiana; Kulvir Singh, Assistant Education Officer, and Vijay Mittra, veteran cyclist and mountaineer, were among others present.
Trials in volleyball will be held on Tuesday.
