In the preliminary round matches in the girls U-15 singles category on the opening day of the Ludhiana District Badminton Tournament, Khushi Tiwari and Aadhira Gupta registered easy wins while Anishka Tholatu had to toil hard against her opponent. The tournament is being organised by the District Badminton Association, Ludhiana, at Shastri Hall near Guru Nanak Stadium here on Saturday.
Khushi Tiwari got the better of Gurmanpreet Kaur by 21-8, 21-6 and Aadhira Gupta outplayed Sukhnoor 21-6, 21-1 while Anishka faced a stiff challenge from Navkiran Kaur before wrapping up with 21-18, 21-18.
In other matches in the age group, Janvi beat Sanchi 21-13, 21-13 and Rakshita defeated Saanvi Aggarwal 21-8, 21-11.
Around 225 participants are vying for top honours in different age groups in this tournament. On the basis of their performance, Ludhiana teams will be selected for the upcoming Punjab State Badminton Championships, said Mohinder Singh Grewal, president of the organising association.
In men’s singles, Vakul Sharma beat Naman Narang; Nitish Chopra beat Hargun Singh; Pratham Sood beat Shreyas Takkar; Krishav Kaplish beat Varinderjit Singh; Ishaan Sharma beat Gurpreet Singh, Kartik Kalra beat Milan Malhotra; Raghav Bhatia beat Roshan Desuza; Jasraj Singh beat Dhren Sharma.
In men’s doubles, Himanshu Dhiman and Arnav Negi beat Ravinder Singh and Harish Kapoor; Nitish Chopra and Rajat Budhiraja beat Simran Pal and Nikhil; Hargun Singh and Shreyash Takkar beat Sachin Maurya and Milan Malhotra; Roshan Desuza and Pardeep Yadav beat Nirman Jain and Harshdeep Singh; Jasraj Singh and Tanmay Tomar beat Sandeep and Ripandeep Singh.
In boy’s singles, Ishaan Sharma beat Arush Aggarwal; Stavan Jain beat Kanishk Chauhan; Gagandeep Singh beat Himonish Dhiman; Dhiren Sharma beat Pranav Chauhan; Vihaan Bansal beat Shivansh; Kartik Kalra beat Shreyan Takkar.
