Kila Raipur survive scare from Athiana, record second straight win in hockey

Kila Raipur players prevailed over Athiana to register their second consecutive win on the second day of the Aryan Cup Hockey Tournament in the Boys U-16 category, being organised by the Aryan Hockey Club in memory of former hockey player Jagbir Singh Grewal at the Olympian Prithipal Singh Stadium of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here on Wednesday. Yesterday, they had begun their title hunt with an emphatic (9-0) win against Nathowal.

However, Kila Raipur boys today survived a scare from their opponents, Attiana, before managing to scramble past 1-0. The all-important goal was scored by Rajvir Singh in the 53rd minute. Sukhpreet Singh of Athiana was declared the player of the match.

Earlier, in the first match of the day, Rampur proved too good for Gurusar Sudhar whom they defeated 6-0. Gurbalhar Singh opened the account in the 13th minute. Tanvir Singh increased the lead (2-0) in the 35th minute and four minutes later, Harshpreet Singh found the target to read it 3-0.

Jaskaran Singh struck in the 43rd minute to enhance the lead (4-0). Gurbalhar Singh again sounded the board in the 50th minute and Harshpreet Singh added another goal in the 59th minute to complete the tally. Harpreet Singh was adjudged the player of the match.
