A 21-year-old youth identified as Gurdeep Singh, alias Mana, died on June 23 when two suspects hit an iron rod on his head at Ikolaha village of Khanna. Today, his kin held a protest outside the office of the SSP Khanna and demanded arrest of the remaining suspects involved in his murder.
The police had already arrested Punjabi singer Kuldeep Singh Vicky, alias V-Deep, in this case, but his son Daman Aujla was still absconding. Deceased’s kin also demanded inclusion of names of other accused in the case.
Mukhtiaro, grandmother of the deceased, said the parents of Gurdeep Singh had died in the past. After which it was she who brought up Gurdeep, the complainant said. Gurdeep was the only bread winner of the family, she said. By murdering him, the suspects had made her family destitute, she added.
After the protest, the police arrived at the SSP’s office and tried to convince protesters. They assured the family that the remaining suspects would be arrested soon. Notably, pigeon flying competitions were organised on June 23 at Ikolaha village. Prizes were distributed among winners after the competition ended at 5 pm. Everyone went back to their homes.
Later, Punjabi singer Kuldeep Singh Vicky arrived in his car around 7.30 pm in the square in front of Gurdwara Sangatsar Sahib. Gurdeep (the deceased) also arrived on the spot on his bike. When Gurdeep expressed resentment over inviting Tinku in the pigeon competition, arguments ensued between him and Vicky. Later, both went back to their homes. Around 9 pm, Vicky along with his son Daman went to Gurdeep’s house and started yelling. When Gurdeep came out of his house, the father and son duo started abusing and beating him. Daman repeatedly hit an iron rod on Gurdeep’s head after which he collapsed on the ground and died.
