Members of various unions and the anti-murder action committee, seeking justice for the custodial death of Narinderdeep Singh of Bathinda, today staged a protest near Nanaksar Gurdwara in Ludhiana ahead of the bypoll.
Narinderdeep’s wife Nancy, along with other members of the action committee, including Jaswinder Singh and Balkaran Singh Brar were present. Brar said they were staging a protest to put forth their demand of the police personnel responsible for killing Narinderdeep be arrested and booked under the charges of murder. They also called for a high-level inquiry into the incident and demanded that the victim’s family be provided a government job and financial compensation.
Narinderdeep was found dead under suspicious circumstances on May 23. He was last seen leaving for work in his car. Hours later, his family was informed that he died in a road accident—a claim the family immediately questioned after noticing visible signs of physical torture on his body.
According to a complaint filed by Narinderdeep’s father, his son was picked by CIA staff-2 officers. He alleged that Narinderdeep was subjected to third-degree torture while in custody, which led to his death.
Initially, the police said Narinderdeep died due to a drug overdose and later claimed that he was killed in a road accident. The inconsistencies in the narrative raised suspicions. A video shared by Gagandeep Singh, one of the acquaintances who had last seen Narinderdeep, further contradicted the police’s version.
