Labour unions’ members protest outside SSP office
Ludhiana, July 31
Upset over the death of a head of Galla Mazdoor Union and member of Congress Block Committee Jagraon, several unions today held a protest outside the Ludhian (Rural) SSP office.
They accused the police of pushing the victim Rajpal Singh Pala to death last night when he was going with his son on a motorcycle. Police personnel had stopped him at a check post and pushed him which allegedly caused his death. Protesters raised slogans against the police and demanded action against the errant cops. Initially, protesters had gathered at the local grain market where some cops told them that they would discuss the matter with senior officers and would convey the decision to them, but when the cops did not return, the protesters moved for the SSP office.
Protesters said they would not cremate the body till a case was registered against the accused cops. Sources said an inquiry was already underway. — TNS
