NRIs of the region have raised a fund to express solidarity with the families of four soldiers from the state who were martyred in a clash with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh recently.
NRIs, led by Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia, have raised 8,000 Canadian dollars for families of martyr Naib Subedar Mandeep Singh of Seel village in Patiala, Naib Subedar Satnam Singh of Bhojraj village in Gurdaspur, Sepoy Gurtej Singh of Birewala Dogran village in Mansa and Sepoy Gurbinder Singh of Tolawal village in Sangrur district.
Demand drafts of 2,000 Canadian dollars each will be handed over to the next of kin of the martyrs individually soon.
Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia, an alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, said an amount of 8,000 Canadian dollars was raised for the noble cause with the help of NRIs who had been undertaking such projects in the past too.
“We have already raised the fund and will be soon dispatching four demand drafts of 2,000 Canadian dollars each in favour of next of kin of the martyrs and the same will be handed over to the families concerned individually by our representatives in Punjab,” said Dr Ahluwalia. — OC
