Lakshay makes it to pre-quarterfinals of Senior National Badminton Championship
Lakshay Sharma, a 19-year-old badminton player from Ludhiana, has made a remarkable impact, reaching the pre-quarterfinals in men’s singles in the Senior National Badminton Championship, currently underway at Bengaluru.
As many as 128 players from across the country, including seeded ones, are taking part in this championship. Lakshay, a trainee of an NIS qualified national coach, his father Mangat Rai Sharma, secured a direct entry into the championship from the North Zone, demonstrating his exceptional skills and potential.
Despite playing without any sponsorship, Lakshay’s passion and dedication to the sport have driven him to achieve this impressive feat.
At Bengaluru, Lakshay, in the first round, outplayed 13th seeded Sai Charan Koya in straight sets 21-19, 21-17. In the next match, Lakshay overpowered Shantnu Sharma from Uttar Pradesh 21-10, 22-20 and in the third round, he outwitted Karnataka’s Tushar Suveer whom he edged out 12-21, 21-14 and 21-18 to book a berth in the knock-out (last 16) stage.
In the pre-quarterfinals, however, Lakshay failed to match his opponent Sanskar Sarswat of Rajasthan and went down fighting 21-23, 17-21 to make an exit from the competition.
