Lakshay’s ranking climbs to 250 before losing in quarter-finals

Lakshay Sharma’s impressive performance at the Nepal International Challenge World Ranking Badminton Tournament has paid off, with his ranking jumping from 335 to 250. The tournament was held at Kathmandu, Nepal, from December 23-26, in which as many as 283 world-ranked players took part.

At Kathmandu, in the first match, Lakshay (19) beat Govind Krishna (ranked 253) 17-21, 21-14, 21-16. In the pre-quarterfinal, Lakshay outplayed Vishal Vasudevan (world rank 108) to enter the last eight stage.

In the quarter-final, pitted against Sidhanth Gupta (world rank 179), Lakshay fought valiantly before going down 18-21, 21-14, 19-21. He secured 2,200 points and his ranking improved considerably.Only last week, Lakshay had made it to the pre-quarterfinals in the men’s singles during the championship in Banglore.

Now, Lakshay is seeded 15th in singles in India.
