Livestock farmers trained on judicious use of antibiotics in animals
The Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, in association with College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, organised a two-day training programme on “Improving Animal Health Practices of Livestock Farmers to Contain Antimicrobial Resistance and Promote One Health.” It was organised under a project funded by the Asian Development Bank and Zenex, India, with support from Sathguru Consultancy Management, Hyderabad.
Dr BK Bansal, Dean of the College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, in the inaugural address applauded the farmers’ enthusiasm for participation in the training and apprised them of the livestock diseases control programme. Dr JS Bedi, Director of the Centre for One Health, and the training coordinator talked about the objectives of the training, focusing on the judicious use of antibiotics in animals to prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance using one health approach. Dr Deepali, organising secretary, talked about zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals to humans along with their prevention and control measures.
Experts from the vet varsity and PAU delivered talks and interacted with the trainees on various themes aligned with the training, including animal disease prevention, control and vaccination, judicious use of antibiotics in animals and gender sensitisation.
