A young woman from Kanganwal, Ludhiana district, has accused her in-laws of assault, claiming that her husband threw her from the roof of their house, resulting in serious injuries to her spine and head.
She is currently admitted in the ICU of PGI Chandigarh in critical condition.
In a 2-minute 30-second video recorded from her ICU bed, the woman made a heartfelt appeal for justice, demanding immediate action from the police against her in-laws.
She said she was critically ill and could have died at any moment, but her priority was to seek justice.
ASI Binder Singh of Kanganwal told The Tribune that the woman, identified as Amrita, had married her husband, Sumit, in September through a court marriage against her family’s wishes. However, within 15–20 days of the marriage, she reportedly left her in-laws’ house and her whereabouts remained unknown for two months.
Amrita returned to her husband on November 6, stating she would live with him, but an argument soon followed. She reportedly slipped and fell from the rooftop during the altercation.
“She is alleging that her husband threw her from the rooftop. We are investigating the matter. The woman was also admitted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, and we are collecting her medical-legal report from there. We are trying to record her statement while she receives treatment at PGI,” said Binder Singh.
