Major fire breaks out in hosiery unit; machinery, stock gutted

A major fire broke out in a hosiery situated in Saidan Wala Gate here this afternoon where goods and machinery worth lakhs of rupees gutted.
The owner of Sea King Knitwears, Munish Kumar, said due to Sunday, the factory was closed today but he was present in his office. In the afternoon when the rain started, he locked the unit and left for his residence. When he reached near his house, he got a call from someone who informed him that smoke was billowing out from the second floor of the factory. When he reached the place, the entire ground floor and the two floors
of the building were already engulfed by the blaze. He managed to take some office documents but could not save machinery and stock.
Fire tenders had also reached the factory for dousing the flames.
The owner said a spark was noticed in the power transformer by his neighbour, following which a short-circuit seemed to have occurred in his factory which took the shape of a major fire.
When asked about the losses, the factory owner said now, they could not ascertain the exact losses, it could be in lakhs of rupees.
