Safeguarding rights and privileges of clients besides enhancing the image of colleagues and improving the Bar-Bench relations are the priorities of Arvind Singh Maavi, who has been elected as president of the District Bar Association, Malerkotla.

“Though we are supposed to work to promote and protect privileges, rights and prestige of our fellow advocates, we will also underscore rights and privileges of our clients who come to us to seek justice,” said Maavi while maintaining that fellow advocates would be encouraged to facilitate videoconferencing with their clients for brief discussion instead of calling them to their offices.

In view of the fact that local advocates face difficulties during their visits to other courts, Maavi said efforts would be made to extend organised hospitality to advocates visiting local courts from other districts besides strengthening coordination with office-bearers of Bar associations of nearby areas, including Ludhiana, Payal, Jagraon, Samrala, Dhuri and Sangrur besides Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Maavi also pointed out that there was a need for creating a congenial atmosphere for budding lawyers besides ensuring due respect to senior and elderly advocates. “We will constitute different committees for assessing needs and aspirations of all advocates, including budding and seniors, so that issues could be taken up with the administration for early resolution,” he said.
