Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh appreciated that SPs and DSP, besides SHOs posted at localities falling under Amargarh, Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla subdivisions, had responded positively to the theme of World Organ Donation Day 2025, ‘Answering the Call’, during the concluding session of a meeting held at his office on Wednesday.
“Having been approached by the office-bearers of International Service Organisations working for the welfare of ailing humanity, we decided to launch an organised drive to support the ‘Angdaan Jan Jagrukta Abhiyan’ and bridge the gap between those requiring organ transplants and available donors,” said Gagan Ajit Singh maintaining that SHOs and Beat Officers had been advised to persuade personnel deployed at their respective offices to come forward in service of ailing humanity.
Meanwhile, office-bearers and activists of various social and medical organisations held workshops and seminars at various places to spread awareness about various aspects of organ donation and the need to strengthen the dedication of the masses to save more lives.
A social activist and senior nephrologist Dr Sandeep Chauhan called upon residents to openly declare support to all campaigns being launched to promote organ donation during life and in case of brain dead patients.
“Those supporting the campaign should make everyone comprehend that a body donated can save eight human lives and help more than 50 individuals improve their health,” said Chauhan, adding that some organs could be donated during the lifetime of the donor according to the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA).
