Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Mallah, near Jagraon survived a scare against hosts Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School (GGSSSS), Gill village, before wrapping up the issue 8-7, lifting the trophy in the girls’ section in the Junior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament which concluded at Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Gill village, near here on Sunday.

The final turned out to be a keenly contested affair with players of either team going all out, however, GSSS, Mallah, girls kept their composure at a crucial juncture and managed to scrape past their rivals narrowly.

Navjot Kaur and Mehakpreet played a major role, chipping in with two runs each to sail their team to victory.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, GSSS, Mallah, proved too good for Dasmesh Senior Secondary School, Gill road, whom they outplayed 5-0 while Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Gill village, decimated Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School 5-0 to secure their berths in the final.

Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School scored a thumping 12-2 win over Dasmesh Senior Secondary School to finish at the third place, bagging the bronze medal. — OC
