Man booked for illegally keeping gunpowder at Indira Colony house

In the recent incident of gunpowder explosions at a house in Indira Colony, located at Cheema Chowk, here the Ludhiana police probe found that house owner Usman Khan did not possess the licence to stock gunpowder or manufacture fireworks. He had been illegally using gunpowder to make firecrackers and Ravana effigies for several years.

The police filed an FIR against the suspect for endangering the lives of people by storing gunpowder in his home without a licence.

A case has been registered against him under Section 125 of the BNS Act and Sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.

The complaint against Usman was filed by Nek Chand, a relative of an injured victim, on the basis of which the police filed a case against him.

Notably, the blast occurred in Indira Colony at 12:30 pm on Thursday, injuring around 10 persons. The suspect, Usman, has been absconding since the incident.

Investigating officer ASI Kulwant Singh said the police were conducting raids to arrest the man.
