Ludhiana, August 1
The Court of Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa has sentenced Surinder Singh, alias Tinku (27), a resident of Mohalla New Ashok Nagar, Salem Tabri, here to undergo rigorous life imprisonment on the charges of killing his mother Charanjit Kaur by throwing her on the street from the terrace and giving blows on the head with an iron pipe following a minor altercation.
Delivering the verdict, the court held that the prosecution has successfully proved the charges levelled against the accused. The court declined the plea of leniency raised by him and also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 21,000.
A case against him was registered on October 18, 2022, at the Salem Tabri police station following the statement of Gurnam Singh, husband of the deceased. The prosecution examined nine witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused.
The complainant had stated to the police that his wife was a homemaker. On October 17, 2022, around 1 pm, he returned from work. When his wife started cooking lunch on the upper floor of their house, an argument broke out between her and the accused. In a fit of rage, he threw her on the street from the first floor of the house. When he raised the alarm, the accused hit him with an iron pipe and he fell on the stairs. Somehow, he reached in the street to look after his wife. The accused also reached the scene and hit her head with an iron pipe. Residents called ambulance and his wife was taken to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, and during treatment she died on October 18, 2022.
However, the accused pleaded innocence but after appreciating the evidence on record, the court found him guilty and sentenced accordingly.
