Man gets rigorous life imprisonment for killing wife
The court of Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa has sentenced Raj Nishad, a resident of Street No. 2, Mohalla Maha Laxmi Nagar, Ludhiana, to rigorous life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his wife Kiran Devi by strangling her.
The case dates back to November 25, 2021, when SI Gagandeep Singh, stationed at Kanganwal police post, received information from the control room regarding the murder of a woman in Maha Laxmi Nagar. Upon reaching the scene, the police found Kiran’s body lying on a bed in the last room of her house.
According to the statement of complainant Moti Devi, a neighbour, Kiran and her husband had moved into a rented house in September 2021. Moti revealed that Kiran had confided in her about the physical abuse she was suffering at the hands of her husband, who allegedly had illicit relations with another woman. The complainant stated that on the afternoon of November 25, 2021, she saw Raj leaving the house. Shortly after, the couple’s younger son, Munish Kumar, returned home and cries were heard from inside the house. When Moti entered, she found Kiran’s body, which bore signs of strangling.
Following Moti’s statement, an FIR under Section 302 of the IPC was registered at Basti Jodhewal police station on November 27, 2021. During the investigation, the police recovered a mangalsutra based on the accused’s disclosure statement. The prosecution presented 12 witnesses to establish the accused’s guilt.
