Man mistaken for thief, beaten to death; probe on

A man was beaten to death in the Kochar Market area late on Thursday night. Residents tied him to a pole and his hands were tied behind his back with a rope. He was slapped repeatedly on the face, kicked and punched in the stomach and his entire body was bruised.

The police said the man was trying to enter a house when the people assaulted him.

As per information, late on Thursday night a man was trying to enter a house in the Kochhar Market area. Some people who were standing nearby asked him why he was entering the house. When they didn’t get a satisfactory reply, they tied him to a nearby pole. They allegedly kicked and punched him in the stomach. The suspect’s condition deteriorated due to the assault and he was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

ACP Gurikbal Singh told mediapersons that late on Thursday night, some people saw a suspicious man entering someone’s house. He was assaulted by them. The man died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased and the attackers were being identified and legal action would be taken as per law.
