The Dakha police booked Raj Kumar Kataria of Rasoolpur, Jalandhar district, for allegedly duping Gurchetan Singh of Kailpur village of Rs 4.72 lakh. The victim claimed Kataria posed as a crime branch inspector, boasting connections with senior officials and promised to recruit his son Lovepreet Singh as a constable in the Punjab Police.
Kataria initially demanded Rs 8 lakh, assuring recruitment before September and a full refund, if unsuccessful. Lovepreet paid Rs 3.12 lakh through Google Pay, following the suspect’s instructions. However, Kataria failed to deliver.
Gurchetan lodged a police complaint, leading to the registration of a case against Kataria under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Investigating officer ASI Tarseem Singh said the police launched an investigation in the matter.
